My name is Maria and if you are reading this, I guess that means you love my country, Greece, and you would like to get to know our language better… right? I can help you with that!
My passion
My passion is learning and teaching foreign languages and my first love is archeology.
I have a four years Bachelor’s degree in archeology, graduated from the University of Ioannina in Greece and a Master’s degree – MA level II – from the University of Siena, in Italy.
What I do
I work as an archeologist, but I have always combined my other passion for languages. I have been teaching Greek (ancient and modern) since 2007, gathering a lot of experience and success stories. I have mainly worked with individual learning, but I have also had experiences of group lessons in New York, where I lived for three months and at the Università Popolare in Rome, where I have been living the last seven years. Since I love communicating with other cultures – having worked as a tourist guide in Rome as a full-time job for four years exclusively in English –, I realized one day that I miss the bonding that I had developed with English speaking people. Of course, here, you are the ones learning a new language, but still, the connection with you is something that I miss in my everyday life.
Teaching Greek
Now… getting into the serious part of this presentation, you can find me teaching mainly on-line, via Skype, unless you live in Rome, in which case we can also arrange lessons on-site, where I live and work, in Monteverde Vecchio. The method that I use for teaching Greek is based on the Institute of Triantafyllidis in Thessaloniki, a Greek linguist who has essentially set the standard for modern Greek language as it has been spoken since the ‘30s until nowadays. The teaching material that I use, is based on the books of the same institute and some extra exercises, chosen by myself according to your level and tailored to your needs. I have experience of teaching at any level and to any age group.
